About EAPASA

What is EAPASA?

The Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA) was established in 2012 as an altruistic and philanthropic institution of a public character.  It exists to promote, on a non-profit basis, the advancement of the practice and quality of environmental assessment in South Africa in the public interest, in the interest of the environment and in terms of relevant legislation.  If appointed as the Registration Authority EAPASA would register environmental assessment practitioners (EAPs) against a set of core competencies using the "Recognition of Prior Learning" principles. .

EAPASA is set up to register EAPs in South Africa as per the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) 24H Regulations .

History of EAPASA

Context for establishing a Registration Authority

Since 1994, South Africa's sustainable development governance systems have been advanced substantially with major improvements to the legal mechanisms for environmental protection and environmental justice. The establishment of equitable systems for access to educational, economic and professional opportunities has also enabled key national government transformation and empowerment strategies in South Africa.
