The Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA) has made significant progress as the single Registration Authority in South Africa in terms of Section 24H of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA).
To date, EAPASA has 292 Registered EAPs and 26 Registered Candidate EAPs, a total of 318 registrations. The organization has moved swiftly in registering environmental professionals undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) since the launch of the Online Registration for Environmental Assessment Practitioners in 2018. The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) Executive Committee has further recognized EAPASA as a Professional Body for a period of five years (2019 to 2024) and Environmental Assessment Practitioners registering with the organization must meet certain requirements for quality assurance.
One of EAPASA’s objectives is to promote the progressive transformation and restructuring of the environmental assessment profession so that it represents the demographics of the country by focusing on support for previously disadvantaged Candidate Black people, women, youth, and people with disabilities. EAPASA continues to process applications during the COVID-19 lockdown and we encourage Environmental Assessment Practitioners to submit their applications and become part of the association.
