The Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA) –would like to remind all practicing Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAPs) in South Africa to submit their applications for registration in terms of Section 24H of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) before the registration deadline.
All practicing EAPs have until 08 February 2022 to register with EAPASA, which is the only statutory Registration Authority for Environmental Practitioners in South Africa. It is therefore important to note that only Registered EAPs from both the private and public sectors will be able allowed to carry primary responsibility for conducting and/or reviewing of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) post 08 February 2022.
According to Regulation 14 of the Section 24H Registration Authority Regulations, it is stipulated that:
“No person other than a registered environmental assessment practitioner, registered with a registration authority, may hold primary responsibility for the planning, management, coordination or review of environmental impact assessments and associated Environmental Management Programmes (EMPrs).”
EAPASA would therefore like to encourage all the practicing EAPs to urgently submit their applications to avoid difficulties in carrying out their duties.
